Hey,
I am travelling to Canada and America in Feb/Mar next year, and looking at travelling from Los Angeles up the West coast America to Vancouver. Im planning on touring in an RV/Campervan, and taking roughly 2 weeks to travel up the coast. Just wondering if anyone can help me in choosing some destintions to stop at along the way.
yosemite nationla park is a must!! If you have time drive to a little place called Flagtaff best place to see Grand Canyon from. Best little town, cool little hostel!!
From Los Angeles, travel northward along the coast especially through Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties. A little north of Santa Barbara is the Danish village of Solvang. Further north is Pismo Beach with an accessible pier you can walk out over the ocean. and a little further up the road is Morro Bay. In the Morro area, take time to see a hidden gem, Montana de Oro State Park, and you will be looking at undisturbed coastline the way it looked over a century ago. San Simeon has Hearst Castle, now in the state park system and worth the tour.
Do take in Yosemite National Park. From the central coast-San Luis Obispo area, take US 101 north to Atascadero and state route 46 east. This will route you inland towards Fresno to pick up state route 41 to Yosemite . Have fun!
One word of warning, it will be pretty cold up north in OR, WA and BC at that time, and Yosemite could be snowy. The Monterey Peninsula towns of Carmel, Pacific Grove and Monterey are quite beautiful (if you play golf, this is the site of Pebble Beach and several world class courses). The coastline is quite awesome along California Route #1 from Big Sur all the way through Oregon (US 101). You leave the crowds behind once you're north of San Francisco. Some of the parks will be closed at that time (especially in NW Washington).
