What are the best places to go in Europe?

Ok so I'm about to embark on the trip of a lifetime... my gap year.

Europe has a long list of interesting and beautiful places to travel. Some of the wonderful places I always wish to visit are
Romantic Paris
Rome, a place with beautiful art galleries and great music
Switzerland
Amsterdam, a city of celebrities

Hello,
Yes in Europe it is a lot of things too see it is not easy to decide what to do. I like Paris, Rome, Budapeszt, Warsaw...Greece and many others places.

I am going to Poland and I am very excited!

Greek Islands, definitely.

If it was me, I would probably hit Amsterdam, then work my way down to Paris, then southern France (maybe a little hiking in the Pyrenees or some cycling), Cathar country in SE France, Barcelona, then north to Provence.

From there you could either head up into Switzerland and then swing up to see Austria, Prague, Krakow, Budapest or head straight to Italy. Assuming the latter: Ligurian coast, Florence & nearby towns (San Gimignano, Siena, etc), up to Bologna, Venice, the Dolomites, around to the Croatian coast and islands, take a ferry back to Italy, hit Rome then Naples (see Pompei) and the Amalfi coast, then either (take a ferry to Sicily, then ferry to Patras, Greece) or head from Naples to Puglia and take the ferry from Brindisi to Patras. Then train across to Athens, see Athens, then hit the Cyclades (Crete, Santorini, etc). Then the Turkish coast and Istanbul.

The Dolomites are awesome. There are rifugios (lodges) you can stay in on the mountain peaks, and for many you take a ski lift up a lot of the way. We were playing cards by candle light in the restaurant one night, when a lightning storm hit. It was wild. If you like climbing, check out the Via Ferrata. Really, really cool. They are wires and metal rungs, originally from WWI, that are now maintained as climbing routes. You need minimal equipment (harness, helmet, gloves) that you can rent. You don't need mountain climbing experience (I saw 10 year olds there), and the routes are rated for difficulty. There is one that has Fiamas in the name that was spectacular.
