Sailing between New Zealand and South America

My time In Australia is almost up and my next destination is New Zealand. I will have a working holiday visa for a year. Since I left on this trip 18months ago, I have had it in my head that I would get my sailing licence and work on a boat, which would take me to other destinations. What would be great is working as crew on one from New Zealand to my next stop of South America next year sometime. Is this possible? Has anyone done it that can offer any advice as to how I can go about it?

Sailing licence?

WTH is a sailing licence?

Hi,
New Zealand is a sailing nation, so it would be a great place to learn to sail and maybe get your boat skipper license. However, getting work as crew is another story, as there will be so many other people with a lot more experience than you applying for these very popular positions. So it might be a bit tough, but not impossible if you get your qualifications. Experience is really important too, so you might have to join a boat on a "share expenses" basis to gain some offshore experience.
Good luck!
