Hi!
My name is Sonia. I'm from Canada and am planning to backpack Thailand on my own.
This is my very first time backpacking, I'm very excited but also scared.
I'm hoping to meet some trustworthy people to travel with.
I'm planning on flying out July 5th and planning to stay in Thailand for about 3 weeks.
I want to see things! I want to experience life! However I can be somewhat quiet and mellow.
Feel free to message me here, I'd love some company to travel around with!
Hey Sonia I am going there too. End of June until 20th of july!
Did you book your flights already?
Luciano.
Hi Luciano,
I haven't booked anything yet. I'm still thinking early July.
Do u have anything planned yet?
Sonia
Hi Sonia,
I was in Thailand december before last and there are DEFINITE things to be aware of, ESP traveling alone.
I would research as much as you can about ' date rape' and read the stories for yourself. The government hardly makes this a known factor as they are protective of their tourism.
The Thai people are lovely; they are friendly, welcoming, humble people, thus they are not the ones responsible for the demise of their country in terms of sex tourism, rather it is the foreigners that travel there.
There are cases of both males and females being drugged and gang raped, and after further investigations, the culprits are said to operate as a "mafia" type of thing and they are from France( can you believe it) and Russia.
OMG i have just read this article.. proof its still happening!

Dont trust other foreigners, if you are going to Phi-Phi island, have a friend with you, don't accept drinks from other people.
Overall, Thailand is absolutely beautiful and the truth is that these things do happen in most countries; what scares me is the fact that hardly anyone is aware of just how often this does happen in Thailand!
About the beauty- The jungle close to Chang Mai is amazing, i trekked through the jungle for 32km, we made our own raft, visited the locals they reside along the river beds in the jungle, learnt about their culture and got to spend time in nature.
From there we went to Phuket. Very touristic, very busy but if you looking for clothing markets or interested in shopping and love the beach, Phuket is great.
Phi-Phi Island appeared to be a young persons dream. A very small island with a buzzling party atmosphere. A lot of young people, and to my surprise young foreign females in groups but def younger than 18... a definite target.
I would love to go back if i could go back to living a fantasy where i think those things don't happen there... but reading recent stories and knowing that it is still there and in full force without Thai officials doing anything.... i think i'l spend my time exploring the rest of the world.
If you have any other questions, let me know.

I visit frequently to Bangkok and if you can change your travel dates we both can have a great time and all time fun
Wow that would be really cool. I hope you have a blast. I imagine by the time you get back that quiet and mellow shell will be gone
If you like beaches then go to Haad Salad, especially if you want to do a little diving.
Tiffany-Jane: thanks for the heads up! i will watch out for myself for sure.
Diny: when are u thinking of going?
