Camping in Sydney

Hey Guys,

You can camp in the national parks but need to book sites ahead of time (especially in peak season/summer). Royal National Park is in the Sutherland Shire, and on the coast... or Lane Cove NP and Ku-ring-gai NP also have camping facilities.

Quickest route from Melb is up the Hume Highway. It's about 10 hours nonstop and many towns have now been bypassed, so it's a bit trickier to find somewhere nice to stop, rather than just a servo.

There is a gourmet food region in northern Vic, around a place called Milawa, turn off there and you'll find a good cheese factory, great place for lunch.

I like stopping in Holbrook just over the border in NSW, and there is an awesome Bakery there with great meat pies.

Down the coast road (Princes Hwy) there are loads of beautiful spots... Kiama, Ulladulla, the little beaches before and after Batemans Bay, Merimbula... it's easy driving too - can just stop wherever tickles your fancy.

Enjoy!!

Try cockatoo Island in Sydney. Its probably one of the closest and most scenic camp grounds in Sydney. Not quite your cheap bush camping experience but spectacular views and the only place to camp right in the middle of Sydney Harbour.

There are some great stop over places to see enroute Sydney - Melbourne. -snip-, although no info about the Bakey mentioned by @aboo10, must check it out ourselves!

A great place to stop on the south coast is Jervis Bay, more specifically in the Booderee National Park. It's a few hours south of Sydney but well worth the detour.

North of Sydney you can also camp on the central coast in the Bouddi National Park, but if you're staying central to Sydney I think the Royal National Park is your best bet.

Unfortunately in January most camping areas around Sydney will be packed full of Sydney siders away for the Christmas holidays, you'll probably either need to book in advance or take your chance when you turn up.

Hey Guys,

Does anybody have any advice or suggestions for camping in Sydney, I'm hoping to get there for a few days during January.

Do you know any good campsites close to any beaches?

Also I will be driving from Melbourne, taking the quickest route there and then head back along the coast so if you have any tips for the road, and places to stop along the way back please do let me know.

Thanks everyone !

I think you can find more better places at Queensland, just a suggestion
