Last weekend I did a three night stay in hamburg. The city was great with beautiful architecture, large shopping districts and a vibrant nightlife. Some of the main sites include the grand church St. Michaelis (called the Michel), the Rathaus (town hall) and visiting the old warehouse district (Speicherstadt) which would be a great romantic experience when lit up at night. The Binnenalster is a large man made lake in the heart of the city which is very scenic both in the day and at night and the harbour promenade (Landungsbrücken) is also a tourist hotspot. The people of Hamburg were most inviting and made me and my friends feel most welcome.
In terms of budget our flights cost Euro110 a head with EasyJet which flew from Manchester. We stayed at the Hotel Lillienhoff which was in an ideal location near the central station and many restaurants and shops. For three nights accommodation it was only Euro70 per person which I thought was incredibly reasonable. Although the hotel was a little dated inside it was clean and the staff were polite and helpful. Food was also fairly priced with some of the smaller family run restaurants averaging Euro15 for a nice meal.
Venice in Italy is definitely a gorgeous place to visit with a lover! So is Paris, but 2-3 days wouldn't be enough to enjoy the city. Just keep in mind that both are very touristic places!
Istanbul is half the price of Venice or Hamburg and considerably more exotic. Use the LCC Pegasus Airlines for good air service to the Istanbul SAW airport, and take the HAVAS airport limo bus into the center of town at Taksim. Only problem with Istanbul is you'll want to stay at least 10 days.
I would go somewhere sunny. Cyprus? Malta?

Its our wedding anniversary in January, and we are thinking of a short 2-3 days trip . Can anyone suggest few ideal places for a budget trip ? We live in the UK .Any UK/European desitinations welcome

Pisa is on the budget airline network, and from there I would suggest a Chianti weekend drinking wine and enjoying low season tuscany...
