Hi everyone,
I wonder what your vision of this journey is.
This, for a great deal of the way, is not remotely like a Pacific Coast Highway experience or similar. Do you really mean 'the coast' all the way and do you intend to drive it through built up areas with only rare glimpses of the sea? It will be very little like an experience of the Spains.
My “vision” is to reach Barcelona. You’re right of course, the train lines and highways do not closely follow the coast, however my goal is not to embark on an indolent beach vacation, nor is it to have gorgeous views of the ocean along the way. I must simply reach Barcelona and am looking for an interesting or even stochastic method of doing so. Funny you should mention the Pacific Coast Highway ~ I actually lead outdoor adventure activities along stretches of the Pacific coastline for the majority of the year and thus know the area quite well and that is certainly not what I’m looking for. If it were I’d still be leading those trips in America. I am quite cognizant of what this journey up to Barcelona entails, but the trip must inevitably be made and I am looking for ways to spice it up a bit.
Sounds as though you’ve been this direction, I’d love to hear any suggestions of places to visit along the way. Or, on the other hand, if you feel that there might be more interesting routes to Barcelona I would love to hear your suggestions! Thank you!
O.K.
So how long is a few days and is it car hire or train/bus?
(And if I were doing this, it would be Barna to Malaga, as Andalucia is my ground and something to look forward to, rather than the second city. To return to 'vision', Andalucia encompasses much of what many think of and wish to see in Spain).
A route by car with 'stuff' to see and do based loosely around your criteria - Malaga (the city), Antequera, Granada, Guadix, Lorca, Cartagena/Murcia, Xativa, Valencia, Sagunto, Castellon de la Plana, Peñiscola, Tarragona, Barcelona.
Slight alternative to Granada and country route - Malaga, travel to Velez-Malaga, turn for Granada and travel via Vinuela, Zafarraya pass, Alhama de Granada, Granada.
