Book the ferry once there. In May the ferries are not going to be sold out. I vote you take the bus from HCM to PP. Many companies do this run daily. Most leave from the Pham Ngu Lao area of HCM. De Tham St. is the KSR of HCM. Plenty of cheap rooms/restaurants in this area. covers my trip from HCM-PP years ago. Price will be about the same, buy your Cam. visa on the bus. Or do it yourself at the border, save $5. I would also take from PP to SR. Cheaper and more convenient than the boat. Decide once in PP. Good luck.
