Thailand travel advice and tips needed please...

I am going to be heading to Thailand in mid May for 2 weeks approx. It will be my first time there.
Can anyone please advice me as to where the best places to go and see are?
My travelling partner would like hot weather and somewhere relatively adventurous... We both like seeing different cultures, places, and trying exotic food (My favourite cuisine is Thai). I love the outdoors and nature.. (mountains, forests, jungles, wildlife, beaches etc).
Want to the ability to travel internally or go to other places nearby. So was thinking maybe going to vietnam, laos or cambodia for a bit too within the 2 weeks.
All tips and advice on the best places to go to and the ones to avoid would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys.

With only 14 days, I don't think you really have time for another country. You will not be able to see all of Thailand in 14 days.

I suggest you head up to for both culture and . This is the place for your jungle, mountains. You might also want to hit while coming back from CM. you can day trip from BKK.

You should have about 7 days left for beaches, jungle down south. Fly BKK- KVB or BKK-HKT on You can as well as go to the beach! I suggest you use as your base and visit , ,
from there.

That is just a suggestion. Others will offer their advice.

hi, i live on phi phi and have travelled all around Thailand, i agree with the above posting Chiang mai is amazing, i was there for a month and didnt want to leave. Its warm during the day cool at night. It is truly Thailand and really friendly. I hired push bikes and did loads of riding around with map in hand. (well not while riding as need your wits about you) its cheap, cheerful, organic and beautiful.

i then got a vip air con bus down or up to phuket back home to phi phi, (its run by the green bus company and is a big coach with only 17 seats plus tv in every seat) much cheaper than flying although takes 20 hours. its cheap though at about 1,500 bhat. flying with air Asia is not cheap as no competition. Prices start at about 3,000 bhat plus they add on everything now, including a check in fee, so read really carefully the small print. my friend booked a week before he travelled there and paid nearly 6,000 bhat sigle. EXPENSIVE...

Also be mindful of ferry times, it maybe you have to stay in phuket or krabi one night if you want to do phi phi or Railay. but both are well worth a visit.

hope this helps

In Thailand never go home with a girl that has an adams apple, no matter how pretty they look!

hi Wijcc,

i have been there last year with my friends. It's really very nice place. We have visited the Pattaya ,Bangkok,Phuket etc.First i want to let you know some tips while you travel to Thailand:
In Thailand, cross one's legs and sat on the soles or by a people are rude. Whether you are sitting or standing, don't let Thailand people clearly see your soles. Whether you are sitting or standing, don't let Thailand people clearly see your soles. Such as doors with their feet, be cast aside by the local people as well as give people things with their feet.
Remember not to touch other people's heads even touched baby's head is not good. Thailand people think touch is humbled by someone else in the head. Jade Buddha Temple Palace do not allow to wear short skirts and shorts, no sleeves blouse or wear slippers.
Remember to take toilet things as Thailand hotels do not provide it.
BTW you may look at my blog for more information.there are some tips and my experience about Thailand. My blog name is : -snip- .Maybe you'll like it.
hope it helps have a nice trip~

Well have booked the flights for Thailand (flying into and out of Thailand)...

Heres what the rough plan for the 2 weeks is.. what do you guys think?

13th Fly into Bangkok then get a flight straight to krabi via air asia
18th fly via Bangkok to Chiang Mai
21st Get a bus from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai
24th fly from Chiang Rai to Bangkok
27th leave Bangkok for London

Or

13th Fly into Bangkok then get a flight straight to Chiang Mai via air asia
16th Get a bus from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai
19th fly from Chiang Rai to Krabi via Bangkok
24th fly from Krabi to Bangkok
27th leave Bangkok for London

Does that sound like a good itinerary?

Also I have been told that Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are very similiar and I may be better off going somewhere else?
Can anyone comment on that.. is that quite true?

I have another question for those that have recently travelled to Thailand.. how long does it take roughily to get through Bangkok airport.. if my flight is scheduled to land at 15:00 would I have enough time to catch a connecting flight via another airline at 17:00 flying to another part of Thailand?

Thanks in advance guys
