Bangkok - budget hotel/room / khao San area!

Hello,

Khao San Road is full of cheap rooms. I'd recommend heading to Soi Rambuttri instead though which is a couple of blocks away from Khao San - it's a nicer area with several eating options and good budget places to stay. I stayed at a couple of different guesthouses - Bella Bella and My House which were both good.

Thanks Bex!!

Which would you recommend?

They're both pretty similar - perhaps My House had the better communal areas if I remember rightly. There are lots of similar options on and around Soi Rambuttri though.

An option you can check out after you get to Bangkok for next visit. There are other areas of Bangkok with cheap accommodation other than Khao San Road (KSR) area.

Sukhumvit Road, Nana Skytrain area, has cheap rooms and hostels too. From the airport, you can use the Airport Rail Link to get to Phaya Thai (45 baht) and switch to the Skytrain to get off at Nana. Walk to these places. If you use a taxi to get everywhere the Skytrain may save you money. There is nightlife in the Nana area if that is a concern.

Orchard Group Hotel chain. Small no name hotels in several locations.

Maxim's Inn.

Soi 1 Hostel and Suk Hostel are in this area.

Lub D Hostels in 2 places not far from the Skytrain. Not in Nana area or KSR area.

Rail service available in Bangkok:

These links have some other places available in the KSR area.

Glad someone else is spreading the word on Soi Rambrutti - I absolutely love that street, it's a hundred times better than KS Rd! We stayed in the New Siam 2 (I think) just off Rambuttri and I'd happily go back there; it was clean, friendly and had a nice little swimming pool - perfect for cooling off in sticky Bangkok! I can't remember the exact price but it certainly wasn't expensive - most of our trip was on a tight budget

Cathy, your constant useless posts pushing your travel service is really irritating, especially when you give crap, bad advice.

The OPer is asking for suggestions about super cheap accommodation and you're pushing a $50/night hotel. Are you nuts?

Cheers,
Terry

Boozle, one thing to keep in mind... because of the demonstrations Bangkok's tourist flow has dried right up, especially in tourist areas like KSR that isn't serviced by the Skytrain. When I was there last week lots of places were offering wicked deals because they were practically empty. It won't be difficult to find a great place within your budget.

Please though, consider some of the excellent suggestions above regarding cool neighbourhoods that are well away from (yawn) KSR.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry
