Advice needed! Where to go after SE Asia?

Dear travellers,

Personally, after spending so much time in SE Asia I'd be giving the Latin side of things a try... Central/South America.

I'd also suggest breaking out of the usual hostel scene and getting off the beaten path a bit, away from the predictable backpacker crowd. With your travel experience it shouldn't be intimidating to check out interesting stuff that's slightly removed from the well trodden Gringo Trail.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

I suggest Turkey and the Republic of Georgia. You could start in Istanbul and end up in Tbilisi. While Istanbul is on the pricey side, by the time you cross into Asian Turkey, you will notice prices drop considerably. Transport is excellent and the people extremely friendly. My favorite was Tbilisi.

What am I thinking - you wanted SE Asia, sorry! Maybe Burma?

Daawgon, read the end of the OP... he's open to anything, not just SE Asia...

Cheers,
Terry

Russia is a fun place to explore- and not that expensive. St. Petersburg is amazing, with it's canals and palaces, and Moscow (Red Square, the Kremlin) is a must-see. Lake Baikal, in Siberia, is one of the world's largest lakes, and really feels like no place else on Earth. If you go, stay at a homestay on Olkhon Island. It's a little primitive, with a banya (sauna) instead of a shower, and cows wandering down the village streets. But that's part of the charm, of course.

Getting a visa to Russia is a pain in the arse, but don't let that dissuade you. It's well worth it.

if you plan to visit SE Asia, Boracay Island in the Philippines is highly recommended. Apart from its great resort & hotel accommodations, there are lots of activities you can enjoy... windsurfing, parasailing, marine walk, etc. I'm thinking of visiting the island this Nov 30-Dec 1. Let me know.

Thanks a lot for the tips so far guys! Gives me stuff to think about

Have you tried visiting the Philippines? Lots of great beaches there with white powdery sun, clear, turquoise water and friendly people.

If you love beaches, then I suggest that you go to:

1. Caramoan Island in Cam Sur (where The Survivor Series took place)
2. Boracay in Caticlan
3. The Pearl Farm in Davao
4. Amanpulo in Palawan
5. Misimis Bay in Albay

...and the list goes on - tons of water activities can be done at those places and world class accommodations are available and affordable.

But if you would like to go sightseeing and explore the richness and culture of the country (other than relaxing on the beach), you can always visit

1. Cebu
2. Bohol
3. Vigan
4. Metro Manila
5. Baguio

Good luck!
