Looking for a buddy in perth

Hi all, this maybe long but here goes, I came to Perth around two weeks ago alone, I came here to try to build my confidence and have a fresh start, i had the impression it would be easy to meet people but basically I don't seem to be able to mix with the people in the backpackers and starting to feel really isolated and lonely as I know nobody, I'm not the most confident of people and not the type to walk into a packed bar on my own and walk out with new friends, I've always found it hard to make friends even at home, I had a few close friends there but that's about it and it took a long time to build those friendships, I've stayed in a couple of hostels now and really have tried to mix with people but I'm just not the guy to be invited out to join the party, more of the guy people say hi to and nothing else, I'm working full time in construction and have a couple of people to talk to there but they live miles away so chances of socialising with them after work/wkends is basically non excistent. I've just sort of found myself wandering around on my own all the time, I love oz and love to see all the sights and of course love to have drinks and party at the weekends but it's just destroying my confidence even more by going to places on my own and being looked at like I'm some sort of loser because I'm pretty much the only person on my own. It's not like I'm a retard (no offence) I'm just quite shy until I get to know people and find it hard to strike up convo with random people. Anyway I'm just wondering if there's anybody else in a similar situation or just to put myself out there so to speak, male or female really not fussed and fancies a beer or something, I'm 27 male from the uk. Thanks. John.

Hey john

Read this, im a very shy person too until you get to know me. I am thinking of going OZ/NZ late this year. Can tell you now no one is looking at you thinking 'what the hell', its in your head. Be confident, approach people and mingle. Its harder said than done. But no one is thinking them things about you. Its your own confidnece knocking you down.

Have fun x

Hi John,

This is your time to shine. This is your trip.. Make the most of it and turn it around. As Kate has just mentioned, i doubt it very much that other people are thinking anything bad of you, everybody is there for the same reason, they probably think you dont want to be approached... What if you had a drink or two to relax and then go over approach people or go out and approach someone on there own, or talk to the staff in hostels ask them about places to go , tours etc... Im sure there will be others there on there own too.. Dont be thinking negative, take it day by day, and keep the chin up
