Hey guys! This question is directed towards people who have been to Hawaii. I am going to Hawaii in a few weeks and I am trying to find a great place to learn to surf This place is very close to my hotel and I was wondering if anyone has ever been there.
If not, any suggestions will help! Thanks guys!
If you are a beginner surfer then it's really not going to make much difference as long as you are getting easy sets. I think the place in your link might actually be the guy I surfed with! He was a kind of out of shape old surfer dude, but put him in the water and he was like a shark! kauai is awesome, you'll love it whatever you do.

How on earth can they teach surfing at Waikiki - there's about 1.5 inches of surf there! If you're serious, you should head to the North Shore on Oahu or to Poipu on Kauai. Waikiki is strictly for tourists hot off the plane from the mainland - it's the worst beach in the Islands.
Well, I have to disagree with Daawgon on this one.
If you look at:

you'll see that the average wave height at Waikiki is about 1.4 to 1.5 meters--or about 4-5 feet. Certainly not the kind of waves you'll want if you're a regular surfer (when 7-9 is minimum height), but perfect for beginners just learning to surf. On the other hand, I wouldn't want to suggest that someone go to the Oahu north shore to start. I can just see them getting there in December and running into the average 25-30 footers common at the pipeline.
I will, however, agree with Daawgon that Waikiki is overcrowded and full of a lot of tourists usually drunk on mai-tais or rum drinks and trying to sleep them off on the beach. It is also not that scenic--especially compared to Kauai or Maui beaches.
