Didn't quite catch: if you going to stay at the hotel in Bangkok, why do you plan to start your trip to Koh Tao from Suvarnabhumi airport?
There are two more or less simple ways to reach Koh Tao from Bangkok:
1. Lomprayah: http://www.lomprayah.com/ (bus+ferry)
2. Combo ticket: sleeping train + ferry (include transfer from railway station to pier). Combo ticket can be bought at Hualampong train station or at travel agency.
My vote - for train+ferry, because (in my opinion) sleeping in the train is more comfortable, than in the bus
Prices are around 1,000 THB
Josh,
I picked a date in Oct. and got a quote from for 790 baht. This is flying from BKK to Surat Thani. Then the ferry over to Koh Tao. Air Asia is switching airports Oct. 1. They are leaving Suvarnabhumi and going back to Don Muang. You can fly this route for about the same price as bus + ferry option. Good luck.
thankyou very much for your response, reply to response 1, i dont want to stay in bangkok long and want to start to make my way to koh phen ngan for the full moon party and my hotel wont be far from the airport. think im gong to go combo ticket sounds ideal and this isnt going to be until mid january
Thankyou again
Why don't you just go down to the pub at the end of your road and get shit face drunk and call it a day? Seriously you'll have about the same experience and save a bunch of money.
If you are going all the way to Thailand just for a party then at least experience something else of the county and take the bus or train from Bangkok and the ferry from Surat Thani. It's not difficult and you will probably meet some people to party with.
Arriving by plane is such a sterile form of transport. All you see is airports and taxi drivers that are the same the world over.
" i dont want to stay in bangkok long and want to start to make my way to koh phen ngan for the full moon party and my hotel wont be far from the airport."
Hard to understand what you are saying.
If you are going to use a hotel near the airport for a few days - you will be paying for taxi rides to go elsewhere in Bangkok where it is more lively! Right from the start you will probably be better off at a hotel more in the city center than near airports.
If you arrive during day hours you can even take advantage of rail service direct from Suvarnabhumi to many areas in the city. There are hotels you can walk to from the rail service.
Even for flights arriving around midnight millions of tourists still go right into the city for their hotels. Taxi ride maybe 30 minutes to 45 minutes and you are in a hotel where you can walk to many things from and not need to use taxis! Some areas of the city, like the Nana area of Sukhumvit Road, are still lively even at 2 a.m.
Many flights leave from both airports. These airports are on opposite sides of Bangkok city area. Don Muang is the other airport.
Up to you.
Agree with karazyal. Staying near airport has the meaning only if you need "quick stop", i.e. overnight between flights.
Better get inexpensive hotel/guesthouse near city attraction and/or night life
For example, Khaosan road or Soi Rambutree area...
If you want to traveling in aisa. so prefer you in India because India is a big country and lots of tourist places specially in Chennai. because last year i went there and that was unforgettable moment in my life.
Mumbai is a big city and there is lot of tourist attraction places and hotels which is provided awesome accommodation facilities and services.
