Zappaman has indicated that this thread is about Thailand
I have done this trip, but in stages. You can go via bus or van from Penang to Hat Yai, then switch to a bus or van to Krabi. It has been a few years since I did this, perhaps now there is a bus from Penang straight to Krabi. I will let another TP member answer that.
HIYA!
I have no answer for you. Sorry.
I just wanna reply that I am also a Zappaman. Or, maybe I should say, I'm a big fan of lots of his music and some of the things he has been quoted as having said in the past. Most specifically, the music of his that appeals most to me is most of the recordings that he released from the first until Sleep Dirt.
Happy traveling.
That's all. Troy.
i did just the same as vegasmike. stopped at hat yai (thailand) and take a bus (it's a van, really) to krabi.
Your trip is February 2007, so it's not too late to provide you some answers.
You can take a van from Penang to Hat Yai which will cost you RM25 per head. Don't know whether it will be increased by that time or not. The journey is 3 and a half hours and there are 3 timings - 7.00am, 12.00am and 3.00pm. Time is Malaysian time.
From Hat Yai, you then take the van to Krabi which is less than 6 hours. If I'm not wrong, there are 2 timings which are 10.00am and 2.oopm and will cost you 400 Baht per head. Time is Thai time.
If you need more accurate information like where to buy the van tickets, etc... you can ask me and I'll check for you nearer the dates of your travel.
Cheers
Tee Vee
PS; by the way, the connections is working but comfortable is another matter. For best comfort, use private taxis.

There are leaving every day Vans from Penang to Thailand, any destinations in the South. They are quite comfortable and not very expensive.
You can take a look at Chulia Street (Lebuh Chulia) in Georgetown Penang. There are so many places offering the Tickets for it.
my boyfriend and i took a private taxi from butterworth to hat yai as we had missed the last train and government bus to thailand when we arrived there from the ferry over from penang. i would not recommend this at all! but you can get a share mini van from penang straight to krabi with a stop off at hat yai. this is a very nice and easy way to travel. it is quite cheap also but i cannot remember the price. you can book these at most travel agents. remember you will have to get out at the border and carry your backpack across to get stamped into thailand (this is free visa for 30 days) then you get back in the same mini van on the thai side of the border. but it's real easy and doesn't take long.
happy travelling!
If you're talking about "private" taxis which mean those eprosnal cars used as taxis, they have different types depending on the condition and age of the cars. You will only feel uncomfortable if the car is odl and worn out.
But there are also quite new or good cars too which I find very comfortable just like any other good cars. I used to take them to and fro Hat Yai to Alor Star airport and also Penang.
But the price should be about RM250 due to the price hike of fuel.

Hiya,
I will also be travelling from Penang to Krabi at the end of March and I would like to know if you can recommend a good hostel or travel agent in Georgetown Penang, where we could buy our bus/minivan tickets.
Do you think we can fit in the whole trip in one day or do we have to stay overnight in Hat Yai?
Thanks!!
