Uk Resident wants American Visa..How?

Hi thanks for looking,

Would it be easier to get a work visa for Canada??

You might be able to get a 12 month visa for Canada - you need to be aged 18-30 at time of application, and if not a student you need to . This is presuming you're a UK citizen, as well as a UK resident.

Here are a list of the different type of visas that allow you to work temporarily in the US:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1271.html#1

You need to realize that the only visa that really works is the H1B visa--and here's the bad news--about 70% of all the people who qualiy and work in the US under a H1B visa are residents of India who work for Indian information systems consulting firms who sponsor them for a job in the US with their firm. And here's more bad news--the visas are given out on a first-come, first served system--and last year every single visa was given out to people whose companies had applied on their behalf on the first day they were available (April 1st). There are 65,000 H1B visas given out through this method.

There are 20,000 additional H1B visas given out each year to international students who get a masters or PhD degree in the US in a specialty area of study.

Lastly, there are some exceptions--for example, about 100 of these visas go to residents of only certain countries (for example, Chile) who have masters degrees and want to immigrate to the US. Since I'm not a lawyer, I don't know the list of all the countries that qualify (but I do know that the UK is not one of these countries.)

I suggest you just get a tourist (non-immigrant) visa and enjoy your trip here.

Oh, and here's the official US government visa site:

Further to the H1B visa. There are still visas available this year (see ), but most years they go very quickly. You NEED to have a work sponsor - which means you need to have a job already, and if you quit that job you have to leave the country.

You might be better off checking out the . There is a category for , but it is only good for four months. You could , and that would allow you to do some work and travel in the school breaks. Basically, there is nothing like a working holiday visa for UK citizens at the moment.

Canada is easier. As mojorob said, check out BUNAC.
