Hey guys...
I'm planning a week long trip to Cambodia in 1st week of April. I want to spend few days in Siem Reap and Angkor.. Also few days in Phnom Penh..
akshay281, a few tips, if followed, might result in some feedback from other members.
1. What flights you intend to take are irrelevant unless you have a specific question.
2. At least give some indication that you have attempted to use Google as a research tool.
3. Accommodation - indicate what your budget allows.
4. Indicate where your interests lie in visiting Cambodia eg Angkor Wat as your've indicated.
General: various websites have travel guides etc eg Travellerspoint, Tripadvisor, VirtualTourist.
Most major cities/towns have there own tourist information sites.
When Members perceive that you have made efforts to undertake research because you are asking advice on specifics eg named accommodation, transport, weather, shopping etc etc.
Hope this helps.
Regarding Angkor Wat: I read numerous travel blogs as well as googled and settled on a short list of tuk tuk drivers and aircon car drivers to decide on to take me to Angkor Wat (3 day pass) when I visited in 2008.

Thanks stoneman...
My specific question in this case is since i'll be flying out of India, flights from Kolkata are cheaper to to Bangkok / Kuala Lumpur and then Air Asia can take to to Siem Reap or Phnom Penh cheaply. My point here, whether it is advisable to start your journey in Phnom Penh or in Siem Reap.
2. At least give some indication that you have attempted to use Google as a research tool.
I have been Googling since a few days about cheaper flights, cheaper accomodation, mode of transport, fellow tourist blogs and various travellers sites like tripadvisor, travellerspoint, travelfish.
3. Accommodation - indicate what your budget allows.
I've searched for couple of guest houses which allow you 10-15 USD per night for stay and breakfast. As a backpacker, all you need is a comfy bed and clean toilet (besides cheaper rent).
4. Indicate where your interests lie in visiting Cambodia eg Angkor Wat as your've indicated.
Angkor Wat and other temples are exciting since I come from Hindu religion and they have fantastic history. Also I've read the history of Phnom Penh revolution and ruiling there. So just to know any country and their culture is fantastic.

How did you manage your travel there in 08?
Akshay, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap is connected by different bus companies. Ride takes between 5-6 hrs. I think your starting point will be dictated by flight times/costs. I took a Mekong Express bus from SR to PP. Cost me $11US. It was only 2-3$ more than the others but it provides the best service. Several departures daily.
Obviously I 'jumped the gun'. My apologies. Good to know you have been undertaking research.
SR accom.-this was my shortlist from 2008 research. I stayed at Baca Villa. Check for latest reviews plus PP.
Baca Villa,#26 Phum Taphul,Khum Svay Dangkum-sgl a/c,tv,safety box,$8US,
short walk to Pub St, Web: www.baca-villa.com;
Littleworld GH,#208 Thapul Village,dbl,a/c,tv,brekky,$7US
Smileys GH,West of Svatha Rd,double,a/c,tv,upstairs room,$10US xtra $3 for hot water
PP accom.-again my shortlist. I stayed at Angkor I.H. because of central location. Next time I will stay at one of the GHs.
Angkor Intern.Hotel,38-50 Street 148-$15recomm.Refuse room in the old wing - look elsewhere
Burly GH-#70 St. 111,a/c,$11US,Spring GH,#34 St. 111,a/c,tv,$10US,Relax GH,#64 St 125,a/c,tv,fridge,lift,$11US
Tip: Ask to see any available room BEFORE you agree to take it. They're more than happy to show you.
I travelled solo and had no problems. Being aware of approx. costs for accom. (low & high season) & buses/tuk tuks, transport options gives you confidence and less chance of being scammed. I used US$ where possible and any Riel I received as change would use to pay for cost small items.
Hope this assists.
