Intinerary Help: Egpyt

Hello everybody!

We have yet to decided how much time we will spend in Egypt.

I think that 4 weeks is a decent timeframe for Egypt. Enough time to see the highlights without being rushed (Cairo, Luxor and Aswan) and add a small detour: to the Sinai, the Red Sea, the Oases, etc.

I was in Egypt for 3 1/2 weeks and could have easily stayed 5-6 weeks without getting bored.

Just note that the Egyptian tourist visa issued upon arrival is usually valid for 30 days max. That sort of limits your stay.

Thanks for the info. It's also good to know about the visa situation.

Hi!

I'm new to the forum, but traveled to Egypt 3 years ago and went with a tour group which consisted of 7 day cruise down the Nile because I'm not brave enough to even attempt Egypt on my own due to safety concerns, especially for single western women. The tour also consisted of 6 more days up in Cairo.

What ever you do, please get down to AbuSimbel. I went to see the Great Pyramids in Egypt, but the Twin Temple of Ramses (A UNESCO site) was the highlight of my trip. I believe the safest way to get down there is by air according to all we spoke too.

Hey Mark,

My girlfriend and I are also visiting Egypt this year. Not until June though. You'll have to let me know how your trip was and what you liked/disliked along the way. We're starting our RTW Trip in Cairo. We have a one way ticket from Boston-Cairo and like yourselves we have no onward flight at the moment. We want to take our time and take it day by day before flying off to our next destination.

Currently we plan on doing the following:

Exploring Cairo
Overnight in the Sahara Desert
White Desert/Black Desert
Visit the coastal city of Alexandria
Explore Siwa Oasis by bicycle
Luxor
Felluca Ride on the Nile
Pyramids, Temples (not sure exactly which ones as of yet) There are so many!

As far as accommodations go in Cairo... We plan on Couchsurfing for the first couple days, then we'll find a hostel from there.

Talk soon,

Ry

I travelled to Egypt about 2 years ago, started overland from Israel. Planned on spending 3 days in Dahab and ended up spending 10 days! I got addicted to the diving and the laid back atmosphere. The food and bars were great. If your not a diver you can still spend the day snorkeling the blue hole and drinking some beers. Cairo is a crazy fun city. It is interesting and dynamic. At first it is hectic and crazy but give a few days and you will begin to appreciate it. Also higher a driver and have them take you down to see the red and bent pryamids down by Memphis. This was a great experience without the crowds!. Head down to to luxor and then spend a couple days on the Nile in a Felucca. It is a great experience. Grab a few people and hire your own boat. Enjoy!
