Beer in a joint $2.50 12 pack in a super market $7-$8 Meals in Resturants $30 per day from a supermarket probably half that.
I did a Trek America trip in '05 and loved it You'll have an awesome time. Have a look over your itinerary and make sure to budget for all the "optional extras" they list (usually a list of attractions/activities you'll get the chance to participate in throughout the trip). Food is pretty darned cheap in the USA, theres plenty of cheaper restaurants, unlike restaurants tend to be here in NZ Anaheim's a lovely place to base your theme park hopping from, and with the 2 of you together you should be able to find decently priced motel accommodation there. I've done 2 several-month-long trips to the USA so if you guys need any more advice, or have any questions about your Trek America trip feel free to ask
Prices vary considerably in the US according to location. Each and every state has separate tax laws so you'll probably never pay the same price twice. You're smart to buy most of your meals at a market to save giving tips. I haven't seen a $2.50 beer in many moons - here in the Pacific NW it's more like $4. and up (we drink quality craft brews in this beer town of Portland).
