I have just been looking through some other posts on here and by the looks of it you need to book accomodation for Christmas and New Year ASAP. I knew it would be busy but didn't think it would all be starting to get booked up this early. I'm looking to stay in Sydney for 2 weeks over this time and really need to get something sorted soon by the looks of it.

Does anyone know if its better to book somewhere for the whole Christmas/New year period or would it be better to find somewhere for Christmas and then somewhere else for New year? The Rocks seems to be most fancied place on here for New Year from what I can see but its fully booked. Anybody got any good suggestions for Christmas or both Christmas and New Year

Cheers

Phil

I would definitely recommend booking asap; many places will be full already. I stayed at over Christmas and New Year - it's a sociable hostel in a central location not far from the harbour.

Hey,

Yeah I highly recommend bookin your hostel asap, it might sound mad considering its 6months away but Sydney gets crazy busy. Even when I was stayin long term in a hostel I still had to pay for Xmas/NYs in advance. Also most hostels increase their prices for 1.5weeks over that period so if you book now ull probs get a better deal.

I wouldnt be to worried about bookin hostels close to beach as Bondi, Tamara, Bronte etc are all within 15-20mins on bus from city or shorter by train.

The reason people coming to Sydney just for Xmas/NY break up their hostel stay between both times is cause its ideal to be stayin in North Sydney for NY as its best location for the NYE fireworks display - but from experience alot of people just get the ferry across on the day of NYE an get ferry back again - it runs to 1-2am on NYE.

Ill recommend some places I stayed an friends stayed in diff parts of Sydney.

Wow, cool. Thank you all for your replies! Great suggestions!

Having thought about it, I think we are going to poss book somewhere up the coast maybe near Newcastle or Port Macquerie or Coffs Harbour.

Then after xmas we'll travel down to sydney for NYE. We have booked Railway Square so at least we have got somewhere booked for NYE :o)

Thanks for all your replies.
Any suggestions on the above places though would again be gratefully recevied!

Thanks
xx

If you want the beach, then Bondi would be my first preference, and then other eastern suburbs beaches (Coogee, Tamarama). Then I'd look at Manly, and perhaps even Cronulla as an "out of left field" option.
