Am i too young?

Hi, Im sixteen, i want to go traveling but i cant obv go on my own, is there anyone around the same age?

You know the old saying, "Age is just a number?" Well it works both ways. It doesn't necessarily matter how OLD you are, it depends on maturity, experience and your willingness to learn as you go. Obviously it will help if you look a littler older than you are, you won't run into as many people questioning what you're doing.

Where are you thinking of travelling, and when?

I was thinking asia, but i know some countrys do have age restrictions, and from August this year some time i think.

I did my first trip alone when I was 15. Best advice I can give is dont go too far on your first solo trip, just in case things dont work out.

Oh cool, Any suggestions on were i could go?

hey mina, cass is right, its just about maturity and being open to new experiences, learning etc. I did some travelling around europe with a friend when i was 16/17, overall it was great but at times very frustrating, i was constantly checked for ID, i dont mean bars either, i mean certain places after certain times, i guess certain places had curfews and stuff. also at the time some airlines didnt allow us to fly alone if we were under 18, i dont know how that is now so worth looking into. we found it alot easier with coaches and trains.

flyingbob was spot on though, i wouldnt go too far for the 1st trip, just get used to it and ease yourself in, worst case scenario if something was to go wrong u wouldnt be too far from home. places like holland, belgium, parts of eastern europe like bulgaria, croatia, etc i found very welcoming and easy to get around, helped also that lots of people spoke english too.

i def found asia abit of a culture shock and took some getting used to as well, but great once i was settled in, so maybe europe is your best bet for the 1st trip. either way its awesome that you want to do this and im sure u will have an amazing time, good luck with it!

Good points being made here.
I definately recommend Europe for a first trip. You dont have to get on a long-haul and do 20 hours or so, to have buckets of fun.
Amsterdam is only an hour away from the UK and is one of the greatest cities in the world. You'll meet lots of people doing RTW trips that are from Oz and Asia - and about to embark on the rest of Europe, before moving on to the USA and Canada. Its friendly (extremely), not expensive - if you do some economics homework before you go, there are return flights from just about every UK airport to Schiphol for around £60 and should things get messy in the morning, you can be back home in time for lunch.
Amsterdam is just one suggestion of so many. Like mikey_d_uk says, Eastern Europe is good too and even cheaper than Amsterdam in many regions. The air fares may be more to get there though. You'll receive a massive welcome and friendships are so easily struck up there too. No need for visas or jabs of any sort, although the tap water can put you on your back for a few days (as I know only too well).
Sounds like you're ready to go for it.

I attended 2 different rotary youth exchange programmes ( spain and israel) when I was at your age. It was really great fun but we were hosted and guided by elders around. so I support your idea of gonig wtihout your parents but you should be somehow guided...

Hey Mina,

Still thinking Asia after all these posts? If you change your mind and end up somewhere else maybe we could meet up for a while. I'm leaving beginning of Sept. and heading first to Europe, eventually moving over to the Middle East (Nov/Dec-ish) and I need to end in Cairo, before flying into Western Africa. If any of that sounds similar to what you're thinking, let me know!

Go for it!
