Australian bank accounts on a WHV?

Hi,

Hi Ben,

Aussie bank accounts are much of a muchness, you won't find one that is hugely better than the other.

In my opinion go with one of the big banks like ANZ, Commonwealth or National as these have the most ATMs especially in the big cities.

Beware that Aussie banks can charge for ATM withdrawals too, however your home bank with usually provide you with a limited number of fre withdrawals each month (but be careful to make sure you take out enough to tide you over)

Have a great trip!

I went with Commonwealth, as did my flat mate who is also on a WHV. As has been said Aussie banks can have quite a few charges, but Commonwealth seem to have none, and withdrawal don't incur a fee from their ATMs of which there are plenty.

I'm with ANZ.

They do charge me 5$ a month for usage, but I've been told of higher rates in other providers.

Withdrawing from ANZ'S ATM is fine, but it's 2$ to check balance and 2$ to take out cash in others like Redi, Westpac etc.

I also went with commonwealth, who i thought were very very good.

They also claim to have the most ATM's in Oz. Oh and their online banking is easy and secure to use! Recommend!!!

Enjoy!
