I am travelling to Australia, New Zealand, America and Canada in September on my own, and would love some advice on things to look out for and the best places to socialize.
Couchsurfing.org is really great from my own experience traveling. Even if you don't stay with people, there are local "ambassadors" who are willing to show you around town and tell you where all of the locals hang out. Hostels are also a great place to meet other travelers. Good luck!
Hostels are best places to socialize with travelers. There are many backpackers that they arrive in country on their own and then they find travel companion. Many hostels have notice boards and travelers put posters up if they are looking for someone to travel with. The reason why most of people do this is because of traveling cost and to make friendship with someone.
The best places to socialize are hostels, 100 % sure. If you are friendly you will find someone to travel with easily.
I always turned up at my new hostel with a four pack, it worked a treat
As previous posters mentioned, hostels are great for making new friends. You can also check whether there are any events or festivals happening during your period of travel, might get to know people with similar interests as yours.
