accomodation in Fiji

Ciccone has indicated that this thread is about Fiji

Make sure you get of the mainland and stay on the Yasawa Islands. I would recommend Botaira Beach resort on Naviti, which is excellent

I had 10 days in Fiji and just went to a travel agents at the airport on arrival and booked a back-packers budget island that was not too far away a taxi and a boat ....ther were dorm rooms and shared facilities and it was cheap and cheerful and all the islands are beautiful in their own way. The Mamanuca Islands are closest to Nadi airport in Fiji and offer some good backpacker options. I seem to remember I had to spend a night or two on the mainland prior to flying home, but the beaches do not compare to those of the islands. So definitely don't just stick to the mainland.

If you are doing a RTW trip I'd assume you'll be seeing lots of beaches. After awhile a beach is a beach is a beach. Spare some time to explore the mainland, I had some amazing adventures meeting real locals and driving around inland. They are really wonderful people when you get away from the tourist scene.

Beachcomber Island resort is where a lot of the younger backpacker type tourists go that want to party in a big way. It has what is possibly the largest dorm in the world with close to 100 beds to the one bure! It also includes meals. It is pretty pricey in comparison to normal backpacker standard accommodation but isn't too bad in comparison to other prices you can get on Fiji like at the Outrigger. The Outrigger is a really nice hotel but is also pretty expensive as well.

A property in Fiji which I think is reasonably priced and has a happy medium from being totally isolated (like most island resorts) and being stuck in a hell hole of a place in Nadi town is the Sonaisali Island Resort. I've been to Fiji three times and have stayed at 8 properties and looked around about 20 others. Sonaisali is an island resort but is very close to the mainland (so close you could easily swim the distance if you are able to swim at all). It also has 24 hour ferry transfers to the mainland so you can get back if you went in to Denarau Island area or in Nadi town. It is a place where it is reasonable quality without being totally squeeky clean like the Outrigger is, it has huge rooms and plenty of day tours which you can pay extra money for. It is about 30-35 minutes from the airport which means it is in a good location for being away from the hustle and bustle but being close enough so you don't need to spend three times the price and spend your last night at somewhere like the Westin, Sofitel or Raddisson which are a few of the top notch properties on Denarau island.

thanks everyone for the info, I'm going to do some more research and use the info you have all given me, sounds like there are quite a few places to go can't wait to get there now! thanks again
