I am totally unaware of costs, but travelling overland from Sao Paulo to Cochambamba will take you quite a few days.
From Sao Paulo, buses go towards Campo Grande and onwards to the border at Corumba. Figure about 18-22 hours or so. From Corumba, the Death Train to Santa Cruz takes about 24 hours. And then a bus to Cochabamba probably another 15 or so. Including time between those probably around 3-4 days.
