Visa upon arrival in Kazakhstan

Hi,
Just one simple question: can you get a (single-entry) visa upon arrival on the airports of Astana or Almaty?
If so, do I need anything except my return ticket and valid passport? Like a letter or anything?
Cheers
Mike

Hi Mike,

to the best of my knowledge, you need to obtain visa beforehand - ie you can not get visa on arrival.

for most countries you will need an invitation letter too. however, some countries' citizens (like holland) are exempted from this.

you can find more info on:
http://www.kazembassy.org.uk/visa_information.html
http://wikitravel.org/en/Kazakhstan#Get_in

in case you are travelling overland: should you be coming from china - there is said to be a hidden consulate in urumuqi where you can apply for the visa. alternatively, if you are coming from kyrgyzstan, you should be able to get visa in bishkek.

hope this helped.

Thanks for the information Kichikacha,
It was indeed helpful and although I had my hopes on getting one upon arrival I guess it's better to be safe than sorry and get one beforehand.
The regulation do change a lot, also in other former Sovjet countries....I hate visa
Thanks again!
Mike
