A majority of my family heritage comes from what is now the czech republic, I'm going to be spending about a week there next month, maybe more if I would like. Is there any places in czech that exemplify czech culture more than others? I will be spending a few nights in Prague and Brno, any other suggestions? I know its a small country and it wont be hard to see most of it but if there are cities or villiages that are must see then I would rather not miss them
Hi ,
You should definitely try and visit Český Krumlov in the very south of the country , not too far from the border with Austria. Its only a small city but its full of of historical and cultural siginifance within the Czech Republic and is a world heritage site.
It has a historic Baroque theatre along with an impressive castle and a couple of museums aswell. It is a little gem of city with tons of character and old architecthure and it sits on a beautiful river.
The city is host to a number of Czech festivals during the summer including a medieval festival around the summer solstice where the whole place is decked out as if back in the middle ages and the town folk all dress up. It ends with a firework display at the castle.
There is also an international music festival held around July/August featuring lots of different acts including traditional Folk music etc.
Definitely a good place to experience and learn of Czech culture and history.
Regards
