I haven't done the TCP Ultimate Oz package but it looks really good value, especially now they include the RSA course etc.
I'm going to Oz at the end of April and I've booked to do OzIntro. They've definitely changed what the TCP arrival package includes though cos at the time I booked, OzIntro seemed best value for money cos it included slightly more, and like you I struggled to find any reviews of TCP. Seems like a legitimate company though Good luck!

Oz Intro are indeed more expensive and they don't include the RSA.. I guess i'll just give it a try then ! I really hope they are legitimate though, the money for this trip was so hard to earn!

The travellers contact point is on the top floor of a building in George street sydney. It is a really great place for information. But I would suggest going there and talking to an advisor when you arrive in sydney, rather than booking before you go.
It is really easy to set up in oz, and pretty quick to set up bank accounts etc.
Also heading to the TCP will give you a chance to get chatting to other travellers.
TCP is legit. They've been around ever since I travelled down to Sydney and worked for a similar company back in 2000. I'm not exactly sure when they started but they've been around for at least 11 years, possibly 20 or so...

I also thought about settling down alone, Im pretty sure its doable but now that they include the RSA, the poste restante, and the TAW membership in the package its simply cheaper to do it that way.

Just wanted to say that I came over to australia with the Ultimate Oz group and my best friend & i had so much fun. For us it was the perfect start to our time in oz in every way, plus we got our RSA done and tax file numbers set up easily. I couldnt recommend it highly enough.
We were told about TCP and Ultimate Oz by my best friends cousin. He came over to australia about 12 yrs ago with TCP and apparently they'd been going for years before that too. So i'd say they were trustworthy.
We are now travelling up the east coast of australia and havign such a laugh.
Good luck & just book it I say, you won't regret it!

Thanks for the feed back, I have to admit I was kind of anxious, mainly because the people that surround me are not being very supportive.
But as you say Dan, I have the feeling that moving to Australia is one of the best decisions Ive taken so far, and Im going to make the most out of it =)
Concerning he TCP package Im definetly booking it, it seems like a great deal of organisation and fun, and of course a nice way to meet fellow travellers .

I stumbled across one of these welcome packages - UltimateOz - at work today and I felt compelled to put my thoughts/feelings about this on a forum to help inform others.
I am an Australian native living in a non-english speaking European country so believe me, I know how terrifying, overwhelming and confusing it is moving to another country.
Perhaps one of these packages would be good for someone who speaks very little english. However, if you speak conversational english or above I cannot, absolutely cannot, understand how this service could possibly cost so much money. Let me explain:
Obtaining a Tax File Number - free and less complicated than you might expect because the Australian Tax Office offers information in various languages as well as a translation service. Remember, Australia is a land of immigrants and government agencies are set up accordingly.
Airport pickup - Decemt hostels will already offer this.
Meet and greet activities - You can do loads of activities organised by whichever hostel you decide to stay at for MUCH less money. Don't forget that if you're staying in a hostel, you naturally make friends with loads of other travellers. You don't need to pay $600 for an organised picnic to meet people you can meet at your hostel for free!
Harbour Cruise - you can catch the ferry to Manly or Watson's Bay for $6. Six, people. That's cheap. The ferries are fabulous.
The Blue Mountains - The Blue Mountains National Park is FREE and can be very, very easily accessed by pulic transport for a cost of about $8.
RSA (alcohol service) certificate - Yes, you need this if you want to work in a bar but what if you want an office job? Better to fork out the $80 only if you really need to.
Job Networking - There are absolutely loads and loads of Temp Agencies in Sydney who are specifically set up to connect working holiday makers with jobs. They can give you all of the work information you need. Think Manpower or Julia Ross. Again, Australia is a country of immigrants and these agencies are used to people coming through on work visas.
The 'furnished shared accommodation tour' - This terrifies me. Sydney property is enourmously expensive and landlords are infamous for ripping off travellers. Do your research! Do NOT pay more than the average prices that you see on Gumtree or on Domain.com.au. If you are being asked to pay more than $300 per week for a room, it would need to be a pretty freaking amazing room.
I know I've gone on and on a bit here but honestly, this is the kind of information I wish people had given me before I came to Europe. Please do not give these people your hard earned and hard saved money. Well, at least give it some serious thought first. What is the money actually paying for? 99% of the services they offer are free.
