The says you need AUD5000 to enter Australia on a Working Holiday Visa. Which currently works out as GBP £3,071.45.
You're good to go

No, they're not strict with funds at all; no one who has ever reported about it on this forum has been asked to provide proof of funds. (But of course you could be the first, and most people do generally need (at least) that amount of money, hence the requirement of it for getting the WHV.)
Aaaah I was worried about this too, I'm glad to hear they're not too strict on it!!
yeah depending how my spending in Thailand goes in June, I will probably have about £900 when I arrive! I will be the first to let you all know what it feels like to be sent home! haha
^^^^^ What Sander said.
I hope they aren't strict on it, I definitely won't have that much when I get there after 3 months in SE Asia and 2months in NZ. I will probably have about £1500, do you think that'll be OK?? I hope so!

You probably will still get into the country, just by virtue of them not checking, but such a small amount of money most backpackers barely last 5-6 weeks (and 3-4 weeks for petenico). If you plan to stay for more time, you'll have to live extremely frugally until you find work (and while you're working, since backpacker jobs don't tend to pay more than the minimum wage).
