I have always wanted to go to Paris but no one I knew had the funds or the desire to go, so I decided to go on my own last summer. I, like you am a female and everyone told me that I should wait for someone to go with me because they were worried for a young (I was 25) female to go alone because I was going to be kidnapped like that movie Taken. I didnt listen and I flew from Las Vegas to Paris and was there for 5 days alone and it was amazing!
My opinion is if you are smart and relatively cautious you should have no problems! And dont worry about "blending in" Europe like the US is a melting pot of all cultures and ethnicities! And whats funny is I'm half Japanese and half German and Im planning a trip to Japan next year and I will not blend in at all seeing as how I look 0%
Happy and safe travels!!!
thx lonetraveler!!
galz like you traveling alone do give me some courage in standing firm in my decision. :D ROFL at the movie Taken. Thx for the encouragement. I'm 22 this year so I really can't wait to travel around. WOOOWW!! Paris for 5 days!!! I can't wait to go Paris myself but then I won't be spending so much time down there. Prolly around 3 days.. =(
KEWL!!! I'm wishing you having fun in Japan but with the turmoil going down there recently. Is really sad.. =(
In most euro cities they have the hop-on hop-off busses and I found them to be great! I used it in Paris and I saw everything that I wanted to see and then some. Its like a tour bus that allows you to hop-on and hop-off (lol) whenever and how often you like. It also helped me get my barrings in the city so when I was walking around I never got lost. Also they provide great little maps with pictures for the directionally challenged like me
thx lonetraveler!!

I know its sooo horrible. My grandma just got a hold of our family who live in Sendai City and they are all ok. I am so happy!!!
thx for the info!! =))
i'm glad hearing ur family is safe... ^^
Hi mkey_gal,
When I was travelling with my girlfriend who's from singapore, her family and friends had exactly the same concern as yours.
I can tell you that travelling around alone in europe is no more dangerous than walking in the center of singapore daytime.
There are millions of girls who had done the same without any problem. For europeans, it is quite normal to travel around in europe, families would easily send their 18 year old daughter to another country to travel or to study.
I know it will be difficult to convince people at home but you will be perfectly safe!

Thx for extra insight. =D. Hope parents tend to worry much but that what parents do.. ROFL.. But I heard about how Barcelona being the hub of thieving. My concern would go to that place...

You could try doing a bit of both! I'm a 21 year old girl, and last summer I went to Europe for two months. I started out with family in Ireland (where my grandparents are from), and then met up with three friends for London and Paris, and broke off on my own for a bit, met some girls in Rome, and visited a friend's uncle in Prague... I called it "loose group travelling." I had friends in Europe at the same time, and we met up but had completely different experiences. I found it really reassuring at the beginning to have people to share with while I got comfortable being abroad, but breaking off on my own was amazing!
