The train is notoriously slow between KL and Sing. Buses will offer a faster option. It will take about 6 hours. However, if you can sleep well on the train, you may indeed save your daytime.
You will probably prefer KL, as Singapore is a very modern city-island-country. But both have their beauty.

Singapore has an awe inspiring number of things to do. And because of the size of the country, you can choose hotels in Singapore without restricting yourself to a particular area.

IMHO. Better to take a bus, it's about 6 hours depending on border check as well. The bus is so convenient and you can choose the luxurious one if you want!
I'd say 3 days for Malaysia (KL & Melacca) & 2 days for Singapore.

Thanks for the replys, I just thought the train would be easier as I would just sleep on the way down.
Probably looking to do the Zoo and Sentosa in Singapore, and Petronas in KL.
