I would like some advice for travel to Europe, hope to take my family of husband, 1 daughter (20), 1 son (16). Difficult to match all needs.
We would like a combination trip of campervan, maybe Uk then mixed travel in Europe,.
Maybe base ourselves and then drive/train. Ideally would like to cover a few countries, over 6 weeks - 8 weeks.
Has anybody done this, cost reduction, daily cost ball park ideas would be helpful.
Canal travel on the Loire vs car hire etc
Like to travel to UK, Fran, Spain, Italy, and then onto czech repub, germany, poland etc
If you have expirenced this..let me know.

I would suggest you to visit the tuscany.. Tuscany is really a wonderful place for the travelers and where you can have nice climate, Landscapes… And you can have a great wine tastings, cooking classes and other culture tours…

Do you have a starting point planned? I guess this may depend on prices of flights from where you are based. Looking at your planned itinary I would maybe suggest the UK, London as an arrival point.
Travelling down through France to Spain then possibly sailing over to Italy from Barcelona and then working your way up through Austria, Czech, Germany to Poland.
A lot will depend on how you want to travel and where you want to sleep. You have many options on both. Hiring a vehicle would probaly be rather expensive. Trains may be a better option, atleast you get to see a lot of the countryside that way. There are various cheap "no frills" airlines in Europe such as www.ryanair.com where you can pick up some really cheap deals if you book in advance.
Looking at the travel period it is best for you to select few countries and explore them deeply. All
the countries you have mentioned are wonderful travel destinations and offer a wide range of attractions. Personally I like Spain a lot. It has a great variety of attractions including fascinating cities, architectural sites, beaches, amazing museums, culture, nightlife, shopping and so on. You need to have at least two weeks to have an overview of its major attractions. Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, Valencia, Seville, Granada and Cordoba are some of the main tourist spots there.

Or time frame will be end of year, to meet our kids school and uni semester.
So the off season and the cooler months. My husband and I plan to travel longer ,
so we can explore a little more freely once kids have returned to school.
I guess my challenge is trying to meld a 16 yo son, (very social and sporty), 20 yo daughter (geology student who loves art) and mum & dad.
We agree that a longer stay in Spain would suit everyone. Italy is high on everyone's list.
I have no idea about accommodation prices, we have a decent budget, certainly not
backpacker accommodation...maybe some ideas on villas and homestays.
Happy to stay outside main cities and travel in to explore. Very much like to absorb a bit of the local living.
This a not set in stone but kids will travel for 4 weeks with us, and we would like 4 by ourselves.
Ideally live local , so not many meals out, obviously cheaper accommodation is good but not dodgy.

Sounds like a full on holiday.
I can recommend without hesitation a trip to Florence in Tuscany, simply because it is the perfect place to capture all your requirements - it's very geological, and you can goto the Hot Springs in the south of the Region. There's lots of art and culture, for the mums and dads, there's amazing food. There are also cheap flights into Pisa, which means that you can have the kids join you and leave you when you want....and it won't break the bank.
