So I'll be in the US visiting a friend as of next Monday and the plan was, after few solo hops around San Fran and maybe San Diego to be back in London for the 12th April... to then go away with another friend for a couple weeks hopping around Europe....
Sorry. For most of us, that's a little too broad to help you. The info you've offered us is that
1. you're on a budget
2. you like Mayan and Aztec culture.

Okay, more details, let me think....
Considering my time frame and that I wouldn't want to be rushing from point to point, a round trip from Mexico City taking me through Puebla, Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido, Pochutla, San Cristobal, Palenque, Villahermosa, Veracruz and Xalapa.
I've travelled solo before so am familiar with the pros & cons of this... but like i said, if anyone fancies a little holiday through Mexico, feel free to jump aboard!!
I'm still debating where I'll be flying from Mexico to and from, it will either be San Francisco, LA, Chicago.... or I might stop in New Orleans for a couple days on the way back.
Best fly to Cancun, far safer than Mexico City, near the Mayan riveria of Mexico, Bus down to Belize and then into nearby Guatemala to see the premier MAYAN Temples in and around Tikal, the AZTEC culture is mainly in North of Mexico, Mexico is huge, sent you info on message, Southern Mexico and Central America is Mayan World, Meso America, lots of tours.
