Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia

I am looking for some advise please. Looking at travelling about in Asia in August ( wrong time of year but only holidays I can get ) Would flying into Saigon, perhaps on toMekong Delta,, Angkor, Siem Reap, then onto Bangkok be possible in just over 2 weeks. Also what is the best way of getting about between places, would anyone suggest any tour companies to use for all/part. Or is it better for my boyfriend and I to discover ourselves. Any help would be most appreciated. Also if we miss out Hanoi etc , will this be a huge mistake?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Holly,

The time frame you have is quite tight but possible in my opinion depending on what you want to see and do in some of the places, I spent 3 nights in Angkor and 3 in Siem Reap and felt that was enough as I was able to see all that I wanted in that time. Saigon is a crazy city and i'm sure you'll enjoy it there but again 2 to 3 nights would be enough in my opinion but you've also got to take into consideration the time it takes to travel between the destinations, I took the bus and some of the trips are between 8 and 12 hours long so you need to fit this into your travel plans. I can't tell you about the Mekong Delta as the boats were'nt running when I was out there due to the dry weather but others say it's worth doing if possible. In terms of tour companies there are so many about offering different deals I think it's just worth you showing up and seeing what on offer, part of the fun I guess. With regards to Angkor I suggest just paying a tuk tuk driver to take you round for the day, they will pick you up from your hotel/hostel and take to see the different temples and stay there with you for the day, it shouldn't cost you too much. If you can try to get to the temples before sunrise or to see the sunset, well worth the early wake up!!!

Hope this helps, feel free to ask further questions.

Holly,
First of all, are you flying home from BKK or SGN? That will make a difference with those trying to help.

With 14 days, You will have to keep on the move if you want to see everything on your list. HCMC is worth 2-3 days, then on to the delta. Don't book anything until you are in HCM. Better prices and choices. You could combine a with a boat to Phnom Penh. Costs more than the bus, decide once there. covers my bus trip from HCM-PP. PP is worth 2 days, then either up to Siem Reap. Bus is way cheaper, boat has good photo ops, your choice. Get the for Angkor, $40. That gives you plenty of time for the temples. Now you have a tough choice. Either an expensive flight REP-BKK or a long day overland to BKK. Here is the to all things Cambodia. You can compare guesthouses, transport, tours before leaving home. Read carefully the section on overland travel to BKK from SR. Much better than in the past, but still a long day. This will put you in BKK on about day 10-11. That gives you a few days for BKK before flying home or flying back to SGN if you leave from there. I would use if you have to return to SGN.

Hope this helps with your planning.

Hi Holly,

If you are going at that time and want to see the Mekong Delta I think you can read -snip- then you can do it yourself. There are many nice places in The Mekong. By the way, I live in The Mekong so drop me a message if anything I could help.
Have a nice trip.
