inca trail - solo!

hi

It's Peruvian law that you can only walk the Inca Trail with a an official registered guide, working for an officially licensed tour operator. There's five checkpoints along the trail that will check up on this.

If you have too much money, you can probably find a guide who will guide just you (acting as porter at the same time?), and stay out of your way most of the time (excepting the checkpoints). It'll certainly cost you though.

to help you get started with finding one. If you actually go that route, it'd be very interesting if you could report back here and let us know who you went with, and how much it ended up costing.

(Oh, and see the information most of the way down . They estimate $1000 for a 2 person group.)

ajdoro,

The whole Inka Trail is from Quito to Santiago.

The one that everyone took is the "Classic Inka Trail" which is legendary took as a pilgrim to Machu Picchu and now is "legalized" with a "must buy permit" which requires guide and porter.

There are many other trails that do not require "license" but it is advise to have a guide.

If you don't want to pay, do your research, don't do the Classic Inka Trail, but have the right gear and know the local language (that would help), and after all Good Luck!
