New Year in Dublin

Hi!

I don't have any tips I am afraid Soph, but I would like to hear from anyone that does too as I will be going there in May for a few days.

Alltså hallå! Jag var ju bara också tvungen att skaffa mig en sån här. Mina resor ser väldigt torftiga ut mot alla andras dock. Höhö.

Men....ja.. Hej alltså!

The National Museum in Dublin has a couple of branches, you'll find more on their website. They're definitely worth checking out.

You could have a wander around the Powerscourt Townhouse, a converted shopping area with some antique shops and a couple of cafes and other stores. It's in the city centre.

The bells of Christchurch are wrung at midnight to mark the New Year. It might be a bit cold to be hanging around outside though!

If you want a day trip near Dublin you could try the DART, which is the city train service. It runs mostly along the coast, parts of which around southside towns of Killiney and Dalkey are pretty cute.

You could even stop off and climb Killiney Hill which offers good views of the Irish Sea and Dublin Bay, one of the biggest natural bays in the world.

In the city there is a bus network, the imaginatively Dublin Bus, which will bring you anywhere, the two line but somewhat limited LUAS light rail system, which all still shiny and new.

Check in advance is some places that you want to visit are open as a number of attractions and maybe some stores might be closed on New Years Day.

The old Georgian squares, mostly the ones on the southside of the River Liffey, with their impressive architecture are nice to have a walk around.

On two of the squares there are parks in the middle, St. Stephens Green and Merrion Square.

I know it will be winter but the parks are quite nice.

Enjoy.

ps The official tourism site should have more http://www.visitdublin.com/

Thank you so much!
We've read about the DART and a bit about Christchurch and some museums. But I think I'll google the thing you wrote down otherwise to see if there's something more to find out.

Thanks!
Soph
