Maestro card in thailand

I know this may seem like a stupid question but im currently using my maestro card, and wanted to know will i be able to use that when im out in thailand? instead of using a visa card. I have informed my bank im leaving and for how long, they told me it should work ok but they weren't even 100% sure.

This might help:

I have never had a problem with my MasterCard which I think is the same as Maestro. I have seen the Maestro logo on some ATMs. But you must notify your card carrier before you go on your trip. No problem with MC for over 10 years.

I do have a back up debit card by Visa that also works okay. Remember in Thailand there is a fee of 150 baht for every time you use most ATMs. So take out the maximum you can at one time. Check with your bank if you don't know how much you can take out in one day. You will be limited of course by how much the particular ATM can dispense. You can also make a withdrawal in person through one of the many banks that also provide currency exchanges. The bank clerk should ask for your passport for identification.

I always have travelers checks available. I get them from my credit union without any commission. The fee to cash a travelers check in Thailand (very easy in the major cities) is 33 baht. So bring only the largest size TC you can get. Some savings banks in your country may also issue TC's without any charge.

My Dutch ATM card sports a maestro logo and I have used that all over the world, including Thailand. So I use it at ATMs just to take out cash (think there might be different types?). There's only two places I've ever had an issue with it, and they were both very remote, with lots of people warning you in advance to take cash with you I also always travel with a credit card as a backup for those situations (or if I lose one etc.).

Hope that helps!

Thanks Sam, great advice.

you can use your credit card in Thailand as well as other foreign country. And trouble-free access to the money, but instead will the exchange rate and transnational transcation leads to money deducted a certain amount as handling fees.

may it helps have a nice trip~
