Planning Advice

Hi there. Im currently saving for a round the world trip in a couple of years but am at a loss as to where to start planning things. I know im asking for quite ambiguous advice but i was wondering how people went about planning such a trip.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

Hey,

I have just come back from a RTW. This is how I did it, sort of, I actually started saving three years before I went but the concrete plan I have outlined below ensured I saved a lot more in the last year!

1 decide time frame
2 list countries you want to go to
3 organise the countries into a RTW trip (travelling only in one direction if you are planning a RTW ticket)
4 decide how long you will spend in each place
5 work out an approximate budget (RTW Tickets £1500-3000 and I allowed £1000 per month for Asia, Africa, SAmerica and £2000 per month for Europe, USA, Australia - that is budget lifestyle with a few treats) Don't forget the cost of visas, insurance, storing your possessions, any new kit and a bit extra is always nice!

6 if you know you can save the money, book it!
(I used Flight Centre because you can change the dates of your flights for only £25, some places charge £100. This is because i am indecisive and I like flexibility, you may have other priorites and these other places often had a cheaper base price.)

7 then the admin: quit job, visas, insurance, innoculations, kit list, packing and storing possessions, credit cards, appropriate bank accounts for large ammounts of money, copies of important documents, list of important phone numbers, generally resolving the estate...

8 leave and have a great time!

All the best, Lucy
