Budapest-Athens overland

Hey guys, basically I've two weeks/two and a half weeks in July to get from Budapest overland to Athens and I'm looking for suggestions for 4/5 nice/cool places to stop along the way...there are so many routes I can't decide, I'd love some help from you guys, thanks!!!!

Any suggestions guys...I know SOMEONE must have a bit of knowledge about these countries!!!! Thanks, Ian

We went from Balaton Lake Hungary via Osijek, Novi Sad, Belgrade, to Macedonia enjoyed Skopje , Stip and Ohrid.
Found Northern Croatia,Serbia and Macedonia very welcoming. We drove in a motorhome (RV / Camper)

If you are more specific about your mode of transport likes / dislikes etc. maybe one could be more specific!!

Well, I haven't been there myself, but if I were you I'd pass through Transylvania (western Romania). It has some beautiful old walled cities, castles, lots of forest and mountains. And, of course, Dracula's castle...

Make sure you save some time at the end of your trip for Athens. It's a truly amazing city- worth spending at least 2-3 days there.
