I am going travelling alone from the start of April, this is my first time and it will be for 4 months.

I traveled SE Asia a couple of years ago. I started in February but got to southern Thailand by late April and stayed until May time and the weather was great. I then ventured down to Malaysia, Singapore and Borneo until mid June and the weather was still good. I don't know about the Philippines as I didn't go but I think the last 6 weeks idea you might come into the middle of the rainy season.

I think there will not be any problem, especially regarding rain because these months are greatly related to weather and you will enjoy your tour completely. Shields144! Are you going there just for fun then why alone?
Do some research on visa requirements. Different countries means different entry requirements and visitors entering with some particular country passports may have different lengths of stay. Research visas requirements!
Entering some countries with a one way flight is different than entering with a round trip ticket. When you are leaving from your own home airport for Thailand you may be asked for a visa if on a one way flight and no verifiable transportation out of the country within 30 days.
Rain depends on what month and where you are at the time. For many places when it does rain the rain stops in a few hours. Or no rain at all. For Thailand, during April, I would expect more heat every day than rain. (I like the rainy season in Thailand. Cooler weather, fewer tourists, cheaper hotels and plant life looks more alive!)
Know how to handle your money on a long holiday. Not always a good idea to be traveling with a big bag of cash, especially if your budget is tight and you might be staying in shared accommodation. (Make sure you can lock your luggage or bags. Easiest way to lose some or all of your money is by the random guests you invite into your hotel room!)
If you plan on using a debit card for some of your cash make sure your bank knows you will be overseas. IF you don't notify your bank a withdrawal on that card may be denied! The bank may suspect credit card fraud when ATM withdrawals start coming up from various overseas countries. DO NOT rely on a single debit card for all of your money. If that card is stolen, damaged or lost you will be out spending money. Have more than one source of spending money.
If you intend to use credit or debit cards my preference is to NOT use these cards for cheap purchases in stores, restaurants, bars like you may do back home. I use my cards in an ATM for cash and use cash for cheap purchases. My feeling is that the less you expose your card numbers for cheap purchases the less credit card fraud you may end up with. (There is a fee to use ATM's. Usually the fee is the same if you take out a little bit or the maximum. Don't waste big fees on small withdrawal amounts.)
Don't leave Laos, Cambodia or Vietnam with their local currency. No one wants to change it in other countries. In Laos and Cambodia US dollars is also used as a de facto currency. But you still need local currency unless you want to pay a dollar for a 5 cent item. (Singapore now is the most expensive country in Southeast Asia. Malaysia will be a little cheaper for accommodation. There is a train that goes from Thailand, through Malaysia all the way to Singapore. Seat 61 has info on trains.)
