You can go to Chengdu between Emenshan and Shanghai.From Emenshan to Chengdu,normally it will take two days by bus.And the bus runs very frequent.Chengdu is a very nice place too.The people there have very open mind and the food there are very nice.They have one of the best food in China plus I believe you can go to some local restaurant and sit down watch some traditional performance while enjoying your food there.Then From Chengdu ,you will have a lot of choice to choose which train you wanna take to go to Shanghai.Or you can go to visit Hangzhou ahead before Shanghai,but you have to go from Chengdu.Hangzhou is the paradise of shopping.It is a very relaxing city.In old China,so many business people live down there and make the city very high-class.It has west lake there where has a beautiful love story between a human being and a snake.And you can also but some silk cloth there or maybe the silk clothes,bags.etc.It is very close to Shanghai.
There seems no direct trains between Leshan and Shanghai.
Seems possibilty is to reach Chengdu and take another train to Shanghai.
You need to check the latest schedules as these are rough schedules.
Leshan to Chengdu trains:
Fastest train No:9484 dep.06:43 arrival at Chengdu south 08:18hrs.
Second best K166 dep.10:47hrs, arrival at Chengdu 12:45hrs.
Note that above trains pass thru Leshan. The train No.K166 departs from Kunming and goes to Xian as its final destination.
Chengdu is also a tourist place . Do you wish to see Panda the lovely animal? then visit the Giant Panda Breeding Institute outside the city!! the best time to visit is in the morning, between 8.30 and 10am, during feeding time.

@ The fares are approximate for upper/middle and lower berths respectively. the fares change slightly depending on the trains you choose.
The train reservation can be made only 10days prior to travel.

Distances in China are great and trains are slow and fairly costly. Consider flying some legs of your journey. I found flights reasonably priced and you are at your destination when you would otherwise be just settling down for a long train journey.
I concur that you may want to consider flights as an affordable alternative. Overnight trains are a worthwhile alternative to hotel stays too if you can sleep in small beds with a lot of activities around you. You can take a bus/tour from Chengdu to Leshan and back in the same day. Sam's tours does a reasonable package and also offers a nice stay at Holly's hostel in the Tibetan quarter. Sim's hostel is also a nice place to stay and can do the Leshan tour too. I'm glad to help out for Chengdu advice feel free to email me. I live there half the year and in the US for the other half. In Chengdu you will find lots of travellers who are waiting to get permits to visit Tibet. Ofcourse Chengdu is also a toursit place.
If you have time, don't miss to visit these places:
...... the Giant Panda Breeding and Research Base in the mountains of Futoushan in the north of Chengdu.The best place in Sichuan to see these beautiful animals.
.....Teahouses : There are plenty of them. Chengdu has an authentic tea house culture.
