Bastille Day

I would like to be in Paris for Bastille Day. Does anyone know any details about this French Holiday and whether or not it is difficult to get in and out of Paris during the days leading up to and after Bastille Day. Is it dangerous for a female to be alone in Paris at this time in particular?

July 14th falls on a Wednesday this year. The Bastille is of course long gone and all there is is a small metal plate to commemorate where it once stood. Most shops, museums, etc will be shut. Paris is about as safe as any big city. Your biggest worry is that you might be targeted by a thief. Crowds and the metro are their favourites. If you need accommodation, book ASAP.

For some reason I was under the impression that this was a big celebration with fireworks, etc. I don't know how I got that in my head.

Hi,
There are fireworks in the evening on Trocadéro Place (you can see them under the Eiffel Tower)
There is also a military parade on the Champs Elysées in afternoon.
And it's not difficult to get in and out of Paris during these days.
Have a good time in Paris !
