Budget / Help!

Hello Everyone,

I'm a Kiwi so can't help you with a budget in pounds, but I can offer you a few pointers First being, DEFINTELY book accommodation for over the Christmas/NY period, especially if you'll be in one of the main cities, which I assume you will (Sydney, Melbourne etc?). I think you could do it on your own rather than use Ozintro, Aussie has a big backpacker market that's geared up to accommodating, employing and transporting young foreigners...but this being your first trip you might like to have the security of some things being a sure thing when you first arrive. I met many British travellers while I was in Aussie, they were by far the predominant group of any hostel! So you won't be alone which ever way you choose to do it. While it would be ideal to get a job asap, budget for the fact that it might take you a bit longer to find work than you'd want - definitely take more money than you think you need. In fact just take as much as you can!

Thanks Monkee!

I have made enquries with ozintro it does seem a decent week to do with them!

I also enquried about flights best quote i found was £881 return from sydney and i can pick my return flight through out the year so sounds alright but cant seem to find any cheaper!!

Alot of people seem to say book new yr xmas and that! so you know any decent places to be ?? i think it be nice to be on the beach xmas day haha!

I was thinking of taking around 5k but some people say they gone through that straight away!!

If i do it alone how far is the airport away from anything would i need to arrange pickup or just turn up get a taxi or walk etc ?

Thanks

Lee

Airports are never close to the CBD. Theres always shuttles going though, for all the main city airports and some of the smaller ones too, so you'll be able to find a lift into town that suits your budget whichever city you're flying in to.

Theres plenty of options for a beachside Christmas, you could do Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, or maybe Cairns up the top of the East Coast. Even if you stay in Sydney the beach is pretty accessible

Hi Lee,

You will be fine with 5k, I went out to oz with only about 3k and yeah you can go through it quickly but its fine if ya dont blow it all before you find work. I think I spent 1k in the first month I was there and that was without having to pay for accom as my sis lives out there so crashed at hers.
Then after that I had started admin work, I got a 6month temping post so then I was getting a wage every week and didnt really need to touch the rest of money I brought with me until we went traveling up ther east coast for 6weeks.

Sydney is great at xmas time, I lived in Bondi and just moved into a room in a house full of randomers when I started working so once you get work you will have no trouble finding accom, I used gumtree.com as they always advertising rooms for rent.

I am so jealous, wish I was going back as I totaly loved the place - I had the best 2 years of my life there. Am heading to NZ for a year now at end of sept, am pancking a bit about my budget too as havent really saved that much but hopefully I will get work straight away!!! Happy travelling
