over land road trip help please

my self and my partner are doing a round the world trip in two years time as it take time to get everything ready we will take in 7 continents 90 countries 289 city's towns and villages along with 45 national parks the trip will take 3 years to complete and cover 234,350 miles

Wow! That really is an RTW! I'm not sure about your kit, but you'll definitely have to take 4 seasons worth of clothes, for all those different climates.

You might have a few hurdles:

I noticed you are planning to cross Myanmar by land. I don't think there are any land borders in Myanmar which are open to tourists, actually.

A lot of places have restrictions on bringing a vehicle into/our of their country, or driving it while you are there. Visas and red tape are going to be a major hassle for you, and might cause days, weeks or even months of delays.

The road to Magadan is called the "Road of Bones" for a reason. It's nearly impassable, even in a land rover, with many bridges washed away each year (see the documentary "The Long Way Around"). Then you have to transport your land rovers to Alaska by air (not cheap!)

Again, at the Darien Gap (between Panama and Colombia) there are no roads, so you will have to put your land rovers on a boat or plane.

I assume you are not transporting your land rovers from South America to New Zealand, then Australia, then Indonesia, then Madagascar, then the African mainland? (All of which would require air or sea transport, costing thousands of pounds each time)

This is really a dream trip. I hope you can do it... have fun!

all the shipping cost have been calculated. as to the boarder crossing with Myanmar we have spoken to the embassy in London and we been assured there will be on problem crossing into and out of the country as long as we agree to having millatry escort have a look at my other tread where i'm selling the seat http://www.travellerspoint.com/forum.cfm?thread=71214

How are you getting through to Magadan then, and Kamchatskaya? Just curious.

Epic trip btw.

although there maybe no roads with the land rover there winches and team work take a look at one or two of these videos on you tube. as i my self am an ex Royal Marines commando and have had the opportunity to drive in some of the world worst countries for example Afghanistan & Iraq

www.youtube.com/watch?v=IngZdOr5YVw

the reason i have put this video for you two look at is that the land rover are much tougher then you would think. there is not mush that will stop the land rover.

the trip is not ment to be easy. if we were trying to make the trip easy then we would make sure that all the route we took would had paved roads. however we wonted to do something the would challenge both our mind and bodies. also when the trip become tough then we will have to work as a team which will in turn bring the team closer together.

I'm sure with determination team work on only will the trip be a successful but it will also be fun. i have called the trip and adventure for nothing

each challenge we meet on the road weather its a small one like what to eat that evening or a large one like how are we going to cross this river will like i said make the team bond together and make us a strong team but it will make the individual person a stronger person within them selves

there will be times when there will be tears, arguments, difference of opinion's and tears of joy when we have complete a challenging day. there will time day when our body and minds are telling us you can't do this but not only as a person but also as a team we will push past them together. i'm sure that each member of the team when trip and adventure has finished not only will they feel the sence of achievement but will have a differant outlook on life.

The trip sounds very exciting...there are just a few logistical problems which I'm not sure you're aware of..?

You cannot go to Jerusalem in Israel and then cross over to Syria. Syria will not let you in with an israeli stamp, even if you enter from Jordan.
I was looking at getting a visa to Angola, and was told you can only apply for it in whichever country you are a resident in. So if you're from the UK, you need to get your Angolan visa in the UK, and if Africa is your last leg, it might run out of validity by the time you reach Angola.
Also, getting around DRC is very hard- it's mainly jungle and not safe. Getting to Goma would almost certainly mean flying, as roads are non-existant.

Otherwise, I must say I'm very jealous...!

Maybe other ex-services could be interested in this - from outside the UK even? Could attract sponsership.

Sorry - don't mean to interfere, but I'm a meddling bugger.

please dont think your a meddler fabyomama as the information your giving is very helpful i have try advertising's the seat in all the travel forums but they have take them of i have set up a yahoo group for those who which to keep up to date with how thing are going which at http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/world-at-your-wheels/
