New Zealand for 2 weeks

Hi everyone,

The weather should be pretty good in November, however I would say if you are going for two weeks then go to the South Island not the North. The North Island is good, but the South Island is just unbelievable, Queenstown, Wanaka, Franz Josef, Kaikoura, the Banks Peninsula, the Marlborough wine region, Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, the list of stuff to see and do in the South Island is far longer than the North.

However if you do go to the North I would recommend paying a visit to Rotorua, Taupo, Wellington and the Bay of Islands. Auckland is ok, but just a big city and not typical of NZ, so you don't really want to spend too much time there.

Hi Matt!

I went to NZ last year in December which is supposedly summer but I was freezing my ass off in the South Island. But anyway this could be because I m from the tropics so I m not used to those kind of 'summers'

Anyhow, NZ is a great place to visit! The warmest place I went to was Kaikoura and you should absolutely visit that place. There is plentiful of sun and you should try out the crayfish there, it's HUGE. Oh, do go for a fishing trip, you would DEFINITELY catch something

Cheers!

November, NZ has not warmed up yet and the south island will be a lot colder than the north island. Expect some rain. I've had it in mid NZ summer.

South Island does have a lot of nice countryside, but countryside tends to be the same whether in Scotland, France, Canada, Norway or NZ. I like towns and NZ has lots and lots of little towns you can wander around, as well as some big towns. Auckland stretches way out into the suburbs as well as across the bridge to Devonport, etc.

Car and camper hire in NZ work it so that if you want to travel between islands, you travel to the port drop off point, cross as foot passengers and pick up another vehicle on the other side, so cheap. One trip to NZ, I saw much of both islands in 2 weeks. It depends on how much effort you want to put into it. With 3 people, you can easily change drivers and so spend a fair bit of time on the road, so see a lot.

Don't expect it too cold but take something warm in case you do get a spell of bad weather. Pop into a fish and chip shop while there. A fair number about and a lot cheaper than the UK. You'll find garages often have a selection of hot pies which are ideal when you are on the road, and cheap.

There are a few speed cameras about, notably in Auckland.

Thank you all for the replies, its really helping me out - i know were starting to plan it way ahead but its not something you do everyday

there are some good driving routes on here:

ake sure you bargain well though....6 people have a lot of buying power in nz and you could get great discounts from any tour operator or campervan renta company
