i am planning to go to Vietnam - Cambodia from October 10-20 with a friend.
i'll fly from Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh and we are going to fly back to bangkok from Ho Chi Minh as well.
i need advice... how long should i stay in HCMC and what to do?
also i want to know the cheapest way to travel from HCMC - SR ?
also.. please tells me some good hostels.
i have some few more questions.
1) is it safe over there ?
2) how much cost normally for the foods over there?
Pacharaporn,
You will find VN prices about the same as Thailand for food, usually less for rooms. covers my flight into SGN and finding a room. This was a couple years ago, but you should be able to find rooms in the $10-15 range in mini-hotel alley off De Tham St. De Tham is the Khao San Road area of HCMC. Cheap rooms, food, tours on and around De Tham St.
I consider VN safer than Thailand. VN certainly has thieves, but much less confrontational crime: muggings, robbery, rape. etc. Take the normal precautions to safeguard your valuables: for money, passport, etc. Lock your bags when not in your room. Make it difficult for thieves to ruin your holiday.
There is now a that goes from HCMC to Siem Reap, $24. A long day but feasible. I suggest that you spend 5 days in and around HCM, bus to Siem Reap, 3 days touring Angkor, back to BKK. It does not make sense to bus all the way back to HCMC so you can fly to BKK. The road is now paved all the way to the border crossing. One day and you are back in BKK for about $40. Or take a $200+ flight on Bangkok Air: REP-BKK.
Send me a PM if you have questions.
thank you very much!
i jsut told my friends to book a flight from PNH - BKK insteand just now

Hey ...
Fly using Vietnam airways, they are pretty cheap and usually reliable.
It is very safe in, obviously like all cities in the world there are the odd areas that are not safe whether during the night, however these are easy to avoid as are usually on the out skirts of town.
The minimum number of days you will need is 4~ One or two days to explore the city, one day to visit the Mekong and one day to visit the Chu Chi tunnels.
Hope this helps!!
thank you Mr.Markyth!

Pacha,
I paid $12 for the bus HCM-PP. The bus straight to SR is $24. I would take the bus back to PNH from SR. Take the 6:00am bus from SR and you will be in PP in time for your late afternoon flight to BKK. Good luck.
