I am travelling to South East Asia for 3 months starting in Novemeber. The vague plan is to arrive in Bangkok and head to Cambodia then Vietnam, Loas and finnish with Thailand. However, we are not sure what to do in each country?
One of my favorite places in all the world so far is the Old Quarter of Hanoi. What a crazy, bustling, beautiful, completely foreign place. A perfect spot to walk around with a camera, sample great food and get lost. A nice complement to the bustling Hanoi scene was a trip to Halong Bay. See if you can rent a spot on a house boat for two or three nights. We (six people) did short kayak trips from the boat, swam at night among phosphorescents, and saw some old WWII hide outs.
As for the weather (late October, early November for my trip) ... it was always warm of course ... and it rained most every day but not for long and then the sun came back out. Oh, and a typhoon smashed into the central Vietnam coast so I missed out on Hoi An, Dan Nang, and Hue because they were pretty much under water. Unlucky.
