about driving from los angeles to san francisco

Hi all

South of Yosemite, I suggest the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park (both parks in the Sierra Nevada Mountains)

The National Park Service websites have good lodging recommendations:

You mean like a total of 3 days from LA to SF?

If that's the case I would go from LA to Yosemite on the first day, spend the next day and most of the third in Yosemite and leave late during the afternoon to SF.

Well, it will still take about 6 hours to get to San Francisco from Yosemite, so you might want to leave a bit earlier--but Yosemite is nice.

Also, a side trip to Murphys and Angels Camp (both just a short ways north of Yosemite--and almost right on the road to San Francisco) would be my suggestion.

Also, if you are doing a round trip (meaning travelling back to LA from San Francisco), then I suggest a trip through Santa Cruz, Monterey/Carmel, then either Highway 1 down to San Luis Obispo or else Highway 101 down through Paso Robles and the wineries to San Luis Obispo--then on through Solvang and Santa Barbara on down to LA.

Enjoy your trip.

P.S. Be sure to book your hotels early if travelling on a weekend--because all of these routes/towns will be booked full (even during this recession) on the weekend.

Another option which I can think of is a more relaxed way from LA to SF by following the coastal route via Santa Barbara, Cambria, Big Sure, Monterey and Santa Cruz.
It's a long drive from LA to Yosemite and to SF like Calcruzer mentioned.

With 3 days along the coast, it is a much more relaxed trip I think. And really it's a beautiful area!

You can choose between Yosemite and Sequoia & Kings canyon or you can visit both if you want to. Just make a time schedule to be spent on both places since you just have like 2 days and a half to visit and a half for the travel going to SF.

I hope you'll have an exciting trip!

Cheers!
