I'm traveling to south America mid feb starting in Salvidor then working my way down to Rio and so on im reading and hearing mad things like a lot of tourist getting robbed and buses getting held up, As iv traveled to Australia and Thailand i felt safe on the street and in the hostels so im just trying to get some last min info on safety of any one who has been or still there

hey its a safe place but you must b having some precautions for any uncertain event.
i live in Peru. and think that you don't need to worry . while taking care yourself and
don't go places that are unknown or risky. that' s all. enjoy your trip.
You mostly need to be as careful as you would, say, in Boston. I am living down here right now and I have never had any trouble except for a pickpocket and the fact that Latin Americans don't know how to walk in a straight line.
You'll be fine.
