Working Holiday Tips?

Hey all,

Hi Justin

I applied for my WHV on 1st Jan and have until 1 Jan 2012 to use it, therefore with the help of savings would like to go Oct/Nov time but I hear September is a good time too. I'd rather head out with good funds though so not in a major hurry and have time.

I'm wanting similiar too in terms of meeting like-minded peeps and work in fruit fields etc as I hear the money is alright-despite the hard work.

By the way what's a RSA?

Caz

Oh by the way I have just googled fruit picking in oz and theres a site called Harvest Hotline Australia along with a few others.

and I intend on getting my RSA before I leave

I would wait till you're in Australia to get this, as it's not a given that they'll accept the accreditation from your home country. They are also pretty cheap in Australia. I think you should be able to get it for under 200AUD...

The RSA is the responsible service of alcohol certificate. It costs $75 according to jobaroo. I think it'd be useful if looking for jobs in the hospitality/restaurant industry.

Do you know where you will be landing Caz? I was thinking of starting in QLD and hanging out in hostels in Sydney while looking for work... but I think it would probably be cheaper if I just went straight to a place where I know I can find work.

Ahh nice one- I do have bar/restaurant experience but guess I can get one of those out there.

No, i'm afraid I don't have an exact idea just yet of where i'm landing but was thinking of starting at the top of the East coast - perhaps Cairns and work my way down and around-hoping to up to Ayres Rocks too though. I would like to make sure I get the best weather at all times too so need to see if starting on the East is the best option? I really have no idea so need to get my research started. Agh!
